The .pl domain registry held, in the last quarter of 2014, the eleventh position among the biggest national registries in the world in terms of the number of active names, beating among others the Canadian and American registries.
In 2014 daily average 2 818 names were entered in the Registry. As in previous years, the first quarter of the year was the best with 3161 new names being registered every day. As a result, in 2014 the number of active names increased by 63 039. The renewal rate was also at the high level and at the end of 2014 attained 60.78%, being the best result recorded in this respect since the second half of 2009.
Finally, the .pl domain registry ended 2014 with the total number of 2 524 538 active names. Thank to this, .pl domain registry is currently in the eleventh position among the largest national registries in the world, just before the Registries of Canada, Switzerland and United States. On the other hand, Poland still holds the sixth position among the Registries of the European Union.
At the end of 2014 the .pl domain Registry comprised more than 947 thousand Registrants. It means that during the twelve months the volume of the Registry was enlarged by 33 thousand Registrants. As in previous years, most of the names are maintained for entrepreneurs and different types of organizations which represent 65,41% of all Registrants. The remaining 34,59% of Registrants constituted private persons who do not run their own businesses. Among the Registrants who have their head offices in Poland, the leading users are from the mazowieckie province where 24,84% of names were registered, while the capital city of Warsaw is represented in the address of Registrants of 16.97% of names. On the successive place, with almost two times lower share, 11.11%, was the śląskie province, followed by małopolskie 9.48%.
