During SID 2018 in Poland we would like to focus on creating a culture of respect online. Respect is a term that contains many meanings. This is an important value without which we will not build a culture of understanding, trust and tolerance. The lack of respect for other people, their privacy or different views results in alarming phenomena, such as cyber-bullying, hate speech, sexing, xenophobia.
During the celebrations of DBI 2018, we also want to emphasize that respect is important not only for the world, for other people, but also for ourselves - it is a support in protecting our privacy, as well as in building the reputation. The Internet is a tool that young people use intensively to communicate and good and positive relationships are based on respect for each other.
The organizer of the Safer Internet Day in Poland is the Polish Safer Internet Centre, formed by NASK and the Empowering Children Foundation. Every year the Polish Safer Internet Centre undertakes a number of actions that aim to achieve the objectives of the SID celebration. One of the activities is the organization of a conference on the occasion of the SID, addressed to representatives of the education sector, NGOs and practitioners working with children.
Moreover, during the SID celebrations the organizers announce a competition for the best local initiative promoting safe use of the Internet. All local initiators receive educational packages and the best activities will be awarded prizes founded by the organizers and partners of the SID.
